Overturned truck leaking fuel snarls traffic on Northbound 14 Freeway in Agua Dulce

AGUA DULCE — A collision caused a tanker truck to overturn on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Agua Dulce on Sunday, prompting freeway lanes and an on-ramp to be shut down as fuel leaked out of the tanker.

The collision was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 4:57 p.m. Sunday on the northbound Antelope Valley Freeway just north of the Agua Dulce Canyon Road off-ramp.

A witness told the CHP two of the vehicles involved in the collision with the tanker truck appeared to be involved in a speed contest before the impact.

No arrests were immediately made.

The CHP issued a SigAlert about 6 p.m., shutting down the northbound lanes of the 14 Freeway and the Agua Dulce Canyon Road on-ramp to the freeway during the cleanup. That was followed by a hard closure by Caltrans. A SigAlert update at 9:15 p.m. said northbound lanes would be shut down from Agua Dulce Canyon Road to Escondido Canyon Road. Another update at 12:18 a.m. said the SigAlert was continuing.

The lane closures were causing a massive traffic jam, broadcast reports said.
