Russian missile attack on Ukraine kills 4, injures 30

KYIV — Russia has hit Ukraine with its third massive bombardment in just 11 days, killing at least four people and injuring more than 30, local authorities said.

On Monday morning, Russian forces hammered four Ukrainian regions with 59 missiles and drones, including four hypersonic missiles, targeting critical and civil infrastructure, industrial and military facilities. Ukraine said it managed to shoot down 18 of the missiles and eight of the Iran-made Shahed drones.

The regions of Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Khmelnytskyi were targeted, with some areas suffering significant destruction of property. The latest series of missile attacks came two days after a Russian barrage killed 11 people in Pokrovsk, in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.

In Zaporizhzhia, rockets hit residential areas and landed near houses at six locations. Three people were injured, Kyiv’s Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said in a statement.

In the Dnipro region, an explosive shockwave overturned a small bus, with eight passengers managing to free themselves from the wreckage; 20 people were hurt, including four children. Residential buildings were also hit in Kryvyi Rih, where Russian missiles damaged more than 20 private houses and energy infrastructure, local mayor Oleksandr Vilkul said in a statement.

“Several hospitals have switched to generators, and their electricity supply has already been restored. The water system has also switched to generators and is now being restarted with electricity. Currently, several streets and electric transport lines are partially de-energized. All services are working,” Vilkul said.

Klymenko said that one person is confirmed dead and three others may be under the rubble in attacks on the outskirts of Kryvyi Rih, where a shopping and entertainment center was also destroyed.

In the Kharkiv region, a Russian attack damaged a business and an educational institution; one person was injured.

“The occupiers also attacked the city of Zmiiv in the Kharkiv region, and a private house was destroyed. Rescuers freed two people from the rubble, one more person may be trapped. The rescue operation is ongoing,” Klymenko said.
