Rob Lowe and Son John Owen Team Up For Netflix's New Family Comedy "Unstable"

Some Hollywood nepo babies try to avoid associations with their parents, while some lean in. That's what Rob Lowe's son, John Owen Lowe, seems to be doing - the father-son duo is starring in a new Netflix comedy series together titled "Unstable." The pair created the series along with Victor Fresco, and in the show, they also play a father and son. Rob plays Ellis Dragon, a biotech scientist who runs his own company, Dragon. After the death of his wife, he's struggling to get his focus back on track. Meanwhile, John Owen plays Jackson Dragon, who struggles to stand out under the weight of his father's long shadow. In the first teaser for the show, released Feb. 3, Rob and John Owen joke about their relationship and how it helped inspire the series. John Owen says he spent a lot of time in his youth keeping his dad "humble" and joked that his dad's ego unchecked would be "honestly dangerous." Rob, 58, says of his character, "Ellis Dragon is increasingly unstable," and John Owen calls him a "narcissist." "He is trying to find meaning in his life," Rob explains, but the board of his company is worried about him. Jackson is the only person who can reach his father. "It's about a father-son dynamic that's very relatable, but under a really specific lens, which is a father who loves being the center of attention and a son who feels the exact opposite," John Owen adds in the teaser. It's not the first time John Owen, 28, and his dad have worked together. He appeared in his dad's previous TV show "The Grinder" and has been credited as a writer on one of his dad's other shows, "9-1-1: Lone Star." He also appeared alongside his dad in the 2019 Netflix movie "Holiday in the Wild." Rob and his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, are also parents to John Owen's older brother Matthew, 30, who works as a lawyer.
