"Rap Sh!t"'s KaMillion Is a Hip-Hop Artist in Real Life, Too

KaMillion has been putting her rap skills to the test long before she was tapped to star in Issa Rae's "Rap Sh!t." The Grammy-winning hip-hop artist, who plays Mia in the HBO Max comedy, has penned songs for stars like Rihanna, Diddy, H.E.R., Missy Elliott, and more. But now, she's bringing her musical expertise to TV land alongside her costar, Aida Osman. Before her TV acting debut, KaMillion made her transition from songwriter to viral hitmaker with solo tracks like "Twerk 4 Me" - which picked up steam online two years after she released it in 2018, The Source reported. Her talent became valuable beyond the music world as it's part of the reason Rae cast her in "Rap Sh!t." "She's actually a rapper in real life, which scared me a little bit at first, because I wanted Mia to be her own person. I don't want people to necessarily look at her and have it all feel familiar," the creator previously admitted to Harper's Bazaar. However, KaMillion's rap experience proved to be an asset because her performance helped Rae and the show's casting crew realize that they found the perfect person to portray Mia.
